John Julian is a British ceramics workshop based in rural Wiltshire, creating luxury porcelain & stoneware pieces for homes, hospitality spaces and design-led projects around the world. Every piece is made in small batches by skilled craftspeople, celebrating the beauty of thoughtful design, traditional making techniques and contemporary British craftsmanship. 

As small independent business, we are passionate about preserving heritage skills, creating products that are made to last, and sharing the stories behind our work. From our studio workshops to collaborations with chefs, designers, hotels and retailers, everything we do is rooted in quality, authenticity and attention to detail. 

We're looking for a creative and highly motivated Social Media & Content Creator to help bring the John Julian story to life across our digital channels. 

About You & The Role 

This role will see you creating beautiful, engaging content that reflects the quality, craftsmanship and character of the John Julian brand. You'll be responsible for planning, creating and publishing content across social media, email marketing, website channels and other brand touchpoints. 

This is a role requiring creativity, initiative and strong organisational skills. You'll be equally comfortable filming behind-the-scenes content in the workshop, styling and photographing new collections, editing reels, and analysing performance. 

You'll have a natural eye for aesthetics and storytelling, understanding how to create content that feels premium, authentic and engaging. You'll be confident working closely with craftspeople, customers, stockists and hospitality partners to uncover stories that showcase the people, processes and products behind the brand. 

You will thrive in a varied environment, balancing day-to-day content creation with longer-term campaign planning, product launches and seasonal marketing initiatives. 

A collaborative and proactive approach will be at the heart of everything you do as you help strengthen John Julian's position as one of Britain's leading independent ceramics brands. 

Key Responsibilities 

Content Creation & Storytelling 

  • Create beautiful and engaging content across Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest and other relevant channels. 

  • Plan, film and edit reels, videos and photography that showcase craftsmanship, product launches, collections, collaborations and life in the workshop in line with the marketing calendar. 

  • Write compelling captions & blog content, in line with the John Julian tone of voice. 

  • Capture and share authentic stories behind our products, makers, customers and creative collaborations. 

Social Media & Community Management 

  • Create the social media plan & upload for approval by Marketing Coordinator and Managing Director. 

  • Alongside the Marketing Co-ordinator manage the day-to-day running of social media channels. 

  • Build meaningful engagement with customers, stockists, hospitality partners, designers and industry contacts. 

  • Monitor trends and identify opportunities to keep content fresh, relevant and aligned with brand values. 

  • Monitor social media performance and use insights to inform future content decisions in line with the Marketing Co-Ordinator and MD. 

Campaign Planning & Marketing Support 

  • Support the planning and delivery of seasonal campaigns, product launches, sales events and collaborative projects. 

  • Contribute creative ideas and campaign concepts across digital marketing activities. 

  • Assist with content creation for email marketing and website updates. 

  • Work closely with the wider team to ensure brand consistency across all customer touchpoints. 

Marketing, Brand & Creative Development 

  • Maintain and champion John Julian's visual identity and premium brand positioning. 

  • Create marketing collateral inline with Marketing Coordinator and Business Development Coordinator.  

  • Support styling, art direction and content planning for photography and video shoots. 

  • Keep informed about developments in design, interiors, hospitality, craft and luxury retail. 

  • Contribute ideas that help strengthen brand awareness, customer engagement and sales growth. 

Essential Skills & Experience 

  • Strong photography, videography and editing skills. 

  • Experience creating reels and short-form video content. 

  • Excellent copywriting and storytelling abilities. 

  • Strong visual awareness with an eye for design, composition and styling. 

  • Confident working independently and managing multiple projects simultaneously. 

  • Experience using social media analytics and performance reporting. 

  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail. 

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills. 

  • A genuine interest in British craftsmanship, design, interiors, food, hospitality and luxury brands. 

 

Desirable Skills & Experience 

  • Minimum two years' experience creating content and managing social media channels. 

  • Experience working with premium, design-led, luxury or lifestyle brands. 

  • Knowledge of email marketing platforms and content management systems. 

  • Experience using Canva, Adobe Creative Suite or similar creative tools. 

  • Experience in product photography and styling. 

  • Understanding of e-commerce and digital marketing best practice. 

  • Experience working with retailers, hospitality businesses or creative partners.

John Julian is a pottery workshop and online retailer selling high-end ceramic kitchenware, tableware and serveware all hand made in the UK by skilled makers. 

Our ceramics are sold via our website and by hand-picked retailers around the world. Our pieces can also be found in restaurants and hotels. Loved by our customers,every piece we make, whether it is a plate, bowl or pestle and mortar, is shaped from raw clay with care and craftsmanship and are designed to last a lifetime. 

We are seeking a Ceramic Thrower used to working in Porcelain and Stoneware to join our studio producing our high-end product. This role is for a highly skilled maker with a deep understanding of refinement, consistency, and production excellence. You will play a key role in creating beautifully balanced, tactile forms that reflect the highest standards of craftsmanship and design.

The successful candidate will be confident working in a disciplined production environment while maintaining the subtlety and precision required for a luxury product. A strong understanding of kiln processes and firing is essential.

Key Responsibilities

Luxury Production Throwing

  • Throw high-end functional forms to technical drawings ensuring consistency.
  • Accurately repeat established shapes and dimensions across production runs.
  • Maintain refined wall thickness, symmetry, and surface quality suitable for luxury tableware.
  • Manage the making process to ensure everything is done when the clay is in the ‘right state’ to ensure successful results.
  • Work efficiently while upholding uncompromising quality standards

Quality & Brand Standards

  • Inspect work at all stages to ensure it meets brand quality expectations
  • Work collaboratively to continually refine forms and processes

Studio Practice

  • Maintain a clean and tidy professional Workshop environment
  • Work closely with Lead Maker and Production Coordinator to capture timings and work to the Production planning whilst protecting craftsmanship.

Skills & Experience Required

  • Significant experience as a professional ceramic thrower
  • Demonstrated ability to produce consistent, high-quality functional ware at volume
  • Strong technical understanding of clay behaviour, drying, and firing
  • Practical experience with kiln loading and firing cycles
  • Exceptional attention to detail and pride in craftsmanship
  • Must have existing right to work in the UK

Desirable Experience

  • Background in luxury, design-led, or premium ceramics
  • Experience working to technical designs.

Packer and Stock Assistant

 

Job title: Packer and Stock Assistant
Reporting to: Operations Supervisor and Business Manager
Location: In the John Julian Workshop, Burcombe, Salisbury.
Contract: 
Casual with potential to become permanent. Need to be available for at least 20 hours per week over 4 days (Monday to Friday).

Loved by our customers, every piece we make, whether it is a plate, bowl or pestle and mortar, is shaped from raw clay with care and craftsmanship and are designed to last a lifetime. 

We are looking for an enthusiastic, “can-do” and methodical individual to provide casual packer/stock assistant support to the business, starting as soon as possible.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

  •        Moving heavy packs of clay and other supplies.
  •        Picking and packing orders and moving boxes.
  •         Palleting orders and moving pallets.
  •         Sanding finished pieces.
  •         Packing and unpacking gas kilns.
  •         Grading kilns when required.
  •         Move and count inventory – Firsts and Seconds.
  •        Keep stock of Firsts and Seconds ordered and tidy.
  •         Helping track tasks on the Workshop Ipad.
  •         Counting/ tracking stock of cardboard, packing materials and other supplies
  •         Following the required Health & Safety protocols and completing relevant records as required.
  •         Assist with administration of fulfilling and dispatching orders.
  •        Assist generally within the Workshop
  •        Regular and thorough cleaning
  •     The role and tasks for this role are varied and repetitive and can be strenuous.

Essential requirements for this post holder:

  •        A good team worker.
  •        Able to follow detailed instructions.
  •         Has good attention to detail and can work carefully with fragile items.
  •         Is willing to learn and has a positive attitude.
  •         Is able and happy to undertake physically demanding tasks and have the stamina to perform such tasks throughout the working day.

Although not the priority for this recruitment, this role could be expanded to include ceramics-based tasks if the candidate had suitable experience.

The recruitment process is likely to include a trial shift.
